Members present: Vibha Akkaraju, Eva Barrows, Geri Spieler, Alisha Willis, David Harris, Tim Flood, Kate Adams, Sue Barizon, Nirmy Kang, Margaret Nalbach,Vanessa McClaren-Wray, Miera Rao, Sheena Arora Tiwari
1. August 2023 Retreat minutes were presented and approved.
2. Vibha will take the lead on creating a survey to rename the NewsBlast.
3. FaultZone: Laurel Anne and Vanessa have been amazing. The bios are all done and the final document will be ready ahead of schedule. Galley proofs will be sent to individual contributors for a final edit.
4. Palo Alto Writers Helping Writers is booked through May thanks to Geri. Note to all to reach out to Cynthia McCarthy at Rinconada Library - she is super supportive and open to ideas.
5. Carole will be stepping down from her role as our NorCal Rep. Need someone to volunteer for the position
6. This year's Holiday Party will be on December 10th from 2:00 - 4:00pm. Set up will begin at noon and clean up will probably take up to an hour afterwards.
7. The NorCal Leadership Conference is on September 24th.
8. Sheena will head up in-person open mic sessions. They will most likely be once a month in Palo Alto. Vanessa will continue to host the Zoom open mics which are on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
9. Cheryl and Corrie (sp?) will be doing the hospitality for the September monthly meeting. They will need volunteers to help with setup etc.
10. Miera informed the team that she had received a request for specifically tailoring the demographics of critique groups (i.e. men only). It was decided that we should limit critique group participation only by number and genre.
11. Reena Kapoor will be helping Tim with guidelines for the content of our Resources Tabs.
12. Tim shared membership information. We currently have 139 members and renewals are at 69% as of today.
13. Margaret floated the idea of waiving the monthly meeting fee for people who are undergoing financial hardship and how that might best be achieved. It was agreed that suggestions would be sent directly to her.
14. October’s workshop by Jordan Rosenfeld currently has only 4 people signed up. We need to publicize - Eva will send information to the other clubs, Tim will send out a further special newsblast, Vibha will create fliers (Alisha to print) to hand out at the September monthly meeting. Geri will post on NextDoor.
