2025 Awards

  • Vanessa MacLaren-Wray

Vanessa is currently editor-in-chief of our biennial anthology, which this year is titled Fault Zone: Faultless? and will be published in December. This is a major undertaking for our club, and involves working with authors and mentoring editors, as well as our publisher Paper Angel Press, to create an anthology rooted in our mission: Writers Helping Writers. Vanessa also served as an editor of our previous anthology, Fault Zone: Reverse and successfully transitioned our Open Mic program to a virtual format during the pandemic.

  • Geri Spieler

Every two years, the State CWC honors outstanding volunteer service by branch individuals. One of the highest honors bestowed to members, the Jack London Award, recognizes “that special someone at your branch who maintains a superior and sustained record of stepping forward unselfishly in the spirit of volunteerism.”  Geri exemplifies this spirit. Her past roles include president, vice president, membership chair, hospitality chair and she has also served as chairperson of the Jack London Writers Conference. She currently runs our Palo Alto Writers Helping Writers program and serves as our representative to statewide and NORCAL boards.
