Meeting: Sat, Aug 19, 2023, 10am-12pm

”Beginning a story is easy,” claims Eireene Nealand. “Endings rush at us in a flash. It’s the middle that makes us quit.” In describing her presentation, “Writing the Middle: The Backward-Logic of Homeostasis,” Eireen “applies principles of neurobiology to help writers work backwards from target endings to allow story middles to become poetically wild, drawing in seemingly extraneous elements as our characters adjust in order to emerge all the more themselves.” With this juicy teaser, who isn’t looking forward to this presentation?

Special Awards

Ina Coolbrith Award. Long-term leader, past branch president, board member, NorCal Representative, and so much more, Carole Bumpus was awarded the Ina Coolbrith Award by the CWC Central Board, which bestows the award to honor a member for exemplary service to CWC and/or the Central Board. Congratulations, Carole! Well earned!

Louise Boggess Award. This year’s award goes to Sue Barizon, along with her stalwart husband and ex-officio member at large Steve. Oh … how we all feel warmly hosted by their congenial setup, environment, and perfect service. Thank you two so much! Be sure to thank them personally at the next meeting.

Jack London Award. Every two years, the State CWC honors outstanding volunteer service by branch individuals. One of the highest honors bestowed to members, the award recognizes “that special someone at your branch who maintains a superior and sustained record of stepping forward unselfishly in the spirit of volunteerism.” Since I’m writing this newsblast and received this award, I, Tim Flood, hereby declare tonight Ice Cream Night!
