Dear SF-Peninsula Branch member,

News Update July 2022!

President’s Message, Geri Spieler

Welcome to our fabulous new website that has everything you need for participating in our San Francisco Peninsula Branch of California Writers Club. You can thank Tim Flood and Margaret Nalbach for this herculean feat.

Creating a new website for our branch has been something we have wanted to do for several years now, and I’m so pleased not only is it done, but it is everything we ever could have wanted it to be. You can …:

·      become a member or renew your membership on the site

·      register for meetings

·      read news from other members or find opportunities for writers

·      find and contribute to events for the writing community (click on the Events tab)

·      check our calendar for upcoming meetings and speakers

Let us know what you think — send comments.

I want to thank Sue Barizon and her husband Steve for a fabulous July picnic at a park in San Mateo. While we brought our own lunch, Sue supplied some very tasty desserts and drinks. It was a perfect day and we enjoyed seeing each other in person for a change — see photos.

Fault Zone Reading at Belmont Library, July 31

Meet us July 31 at the Belmont Library, 3 PM, where our members will read from Fault Zone: Reverse. Details on our website. Organizer Lisa Meltzer Penn reports that the library will host more of these for us in the future, but we need a good turnout!

August Meeting

Register to attend our August 20 meeting to hear our own Audrey Kalman and Jennifer Browdy in “Birth Your Truest Story.” A writer’s most formidable obstacles often come from within. Harsh inner critics, fear of facing emotional truths, and the tyranny of ingrained habits may hold us back from bringing our stories freely onto the page.

Hybrid Meetings

Join us for meetings online (ZOOM) or in person at the Sequoia Yacht Club.

Monthly Meeting Fee Change

Due to low interest, we’re no longer accepting the annual prepayment of the meeting fee. Whether you’re attending online or in person, register online (only $10). If you show up at the meeting without prepaying, the cost is $15 at the door (cash, check, or credit card).

Membership Renewal

Now’s the time to renew your annual membership. Renewal so far is strong. Don’t leave it to the last second!

Member News

Get in the habit of checking out Newsstand on your new website. We’re busy collecting your latest news. Thanks to Colleen Olle for compiling, editing, and posting news on the Newsstand, where you can read about:

·      Ida Lewenstein’s book readings in Florida schools

·      Another big win for Laurel Anne Hill’s Plague of Flies

·      Steve Latner’s latest novel

·      Evelyn LaTorre’s anthology contribution

·      A trifecta of stories from irrepressible Jim Hanna

·      A scripted podcast of Geri Spieler’s republished title The Housewife Assassin: The Woman Who Tried to Kill President Ford (scheduled 2023 release)

·      And Geri was recently elected president of the California Writers Club presidents’ club

Do You Have News?

We want to hear it, of course! Email your name, photo, and a short news blurb (100 words or less) to newsletter@sfpeninsulawriters.com. We post news under the Newsstand tab weekly.
