BOARD MEETING MINUTES
California Writers Club
San Francisco/Peninsula Branch
Jan 16th, 2023, at 6:30 p.m.

Members present: Geri Spieler, Alisha Wills, David Harris, Margaret Nalbach, Sue Barizon, Tim Flood, Carole Bumpus, Vanessa MacLaren-Wray, Audrey Kalman, Kate Adams, Miera Rao, Nirmy Kang
Comment: Would be wonderful if more members supported the Writers Helping Writers Program.
We are currently paying $230/mo for the storage facility. Geri & Sue are going to look into downsizing.
Volunteers are still needed for the booth at SFWC in Feb. Carole is going to write a blurb which Tim will send out in the NewsBlast.
Tim and Margaret - possibly in costumes :) - will run the Feb 18th monthly meeting
David will be in charge of recruiting an Election Committee for the Board
16 people have signed up to attend the New Member Orientation at Carole’s house on Jan
22nd. Tim, Margaret and Geri will also be present.
Margaret will look into redesigning brochures. In meantime she plans to design bookmarks to
hand out at SF Writers Conference
We will vote on By-Laws in the February Board Meeting.
Geri would like some help with the Stuart Horowitz Workshop on March 11th. Tim will
follow up with him to get details.
Carole has prepared a piece about Ellen Six which will be sent out in the NewsBlast. Several
people have reached out to pay CWC’s respects and offer condolences.
FaultZone - acceptances and rejections will be sent out by mid-Feb. Steve at paper Angel
Press would like to receive everything by October. Vanessa has sent sample copies of
contracts to the group. These need to be reviewed by the Board.
Post Holiday Party Analysis by Sue - 60+ attendees, way under budget, for next year she feels
we do not need wine or beer. A resounding success!
Everyone was super excited to have Miera Rao join us as “the Matchmaker” aka critique
group coordinator. A wonderful new website - which will allow members to join existing groups or form new ones - was showcased by Tim and Miera and will be rolled out in the next few weeks. Some questions about how to move forward with existing groups.
